Ignorance is Bliss

By Chad Hollis

nightfall
an attack of panic
sneaks up slowly
and then
the second a pack of cards
jumps from the table
my whole misfit platoon
hits the ground
we’ve been here before
metaphorical missiles whistling
through the cold night air
a labyrinth mind
is such a perfect place
to cage yet another
curious neurosis
the Minotaur runs rampant
crawling through this dimension
of mental chaos
the egg shell walls of home
billowing in shock
the world shakes
and so do I
When the dust clears
making my way through
the rubble
the absolute mess
I find in flashlight
a certain someone
just waking up
“how could you possibly
sleep through an invasion?”,
I ask, voice cracking hoarse
“Invasion? What invasion?”
