Mishima

By Chad Hollis

mouths held close
almost touching
breath mingling
inseparable until
that undone time
comes shoving
the inevitable from
my subconscious
stutterings
still it intrudes
a sentry’s call
only a few hours left
as shafts of light
fall onto the wall
from the 7-11
across from your place
tired and more tired
still I stay awake
listening to you
breathe in sleep
knowing this
is all we have
time to untangle
limbs and hair
all night long
I knew the night
would end
