Sobering Up

By Chad Hollis

I pay the tab
though I know I want
a little taste
I want so
to let you
roll across
my tongue, as
long as possible
It is not
wrong of me
to crave this
elixir, whether
or not it
is all mine. After all,
when all is done
and I have
absorbed this
completely, I
need but to swallow
my sour pride
and fill the glass
just so high, so drunk
will I be, that I won’t care
where the bottle came from
