Metaphorically

By Chad Hollis

As metaphors go
I’m bigger than Neruda and
the feeling of all things
Crazy when you’re in
Summer dress

I’d like to be the potential explosion
of Carolina discourse or immutable
Geraniums in Garcia stories, they
Shine like the cosmos past the milky way ~
Orion in a quasar
Or swing hips of the trees

This season I’ll be skimming Utopia
in my tank top, waiting for
the sky to pick me up, put me down
Climb like the mayflies do
60 second glory unto the years
I’d fall apart

And I’ll expand when you talk to me
Reptile verbage and dry sound
Enclose humanity under conscience
Until you are murmuring city songs overhead
in the convalescent streetlight skins; you burn sodium
for that glow ~

I’ll be running around with apocalypse
Coiled silent fibers in my pocket
Be protecting Monday with a stopwatch
Until that instant where I decide
My existence is panoply
I’m materialized dreams
for a summertime fodder carnival show.
