Rain

by Chad Hollis

and so begins the tide
cascading through my dreary skies
striking my skin with a playful pinch
like so many tiny warriors
hurling cotton spears with all their might
my futile exertions hardly deter
these relentless minions
forging downward
with such passive might
upon their quarry
my body riddled with shrouded wounds
I choose to fight no longer

I surrender and am slain

tarnished with the blood of my assailants
a most welcome demise
on such a brutal summer day
